May 2004 - MexicoThe 1° International symposium of monumental sculptures on steel has been held from the 15th of May to 6 th of June 2004 in Tijuana, Mexico and in San Diego, California, patronized by A.I.E.S.M., from the Committee of Image and from the municipality of Tijuana, from the Gani Art Park in San Diego and various private sponsors.
The event, organized by the architect/sculptor Jack Winer, for the section in Tijuana has seen the participation of 8 invited artists in representation of different countries: Alber De Matteis - France, Bettino Francini - Italy, Miguel Hernandez Urban - Mexico, Roger Lapalme - Canada, Cuanalo Yulka - Mexico, Rosique - Mexico, Josè Lobo - Mexico, Jack Winer - Mexico.
The sculptures, realized during the symposium, have concerned different thematic, with the principal wish to underline the unique and strategic role of Tijuana as city of frontier among two worlds with extremely different cultures, Mexico and United States, that in its territory, nevertheless, they meet and contaminate each other.
The works, all superior to the 6 meters of height, will be permanently installed in the parks and in the urban areas of the city of Tijuana, that, with the patronage of this event, shows its wish to become important center of promotion for the Art in Mexico.
For the section in San Diego, other 8 invited artists have participated: Ante Marinovic - Croazia, Hanna Jubran - U.S.A., Becky Guttin - Mexico, Michael Lyons - England, Salo Saul - Israel, Viviana Lombrozo - U.S.A., Shirley Lichtman - U.S.A, whose works will go to enrich the collection of the Gani Art Park in Scripps Ranch.
